Why generated sleep sounds are different
A recorded sound file has a beginning and an end. To play all night it has to loop, and at the seam there is a tiny change in texture or a moment of silence. Adults sleep through it; a newborn in the light phase of sleep often does not. Streaming avoids the file size but adds buffering and stops working the moment your signal drops.
BabySleep takes a third route. White, pink and brown noise, rain, ocean, fan, heartbeat and womb sounds are synthesized in real time by the app’s audio engine. The download is tiny, nothing buffers, and playback continues whether or not you have signal. It is 3 a.m. and you need the noise to start now, not after a download.
The sleep sounds inside
The catalog covers the sounds parents reach for most, and any of them can be layered in the mixer:
- White, pink and brown noise — from bright hiss to deep, warm rumble
- Rain, ocean and fan — steady textures with natural variation
- Heartbeat and womb sounds — for newborns who settle to what they heard before birth
- Shusher-style sounds — the rhythmic “shhh” for colicky evenings
- Real lullaby melodies to layer under noise or play alone
A timer that fades, not stops
Choose a sleep timer of 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes, or leave the sound running all night. When the timer ends, the sound fades out over 1 to 30 minutes instead of cutting off — an abrupt stop is exactly the kind of change that wakes a baby. Every sound also soft-starts over two seconds, so pressing play never startles.
Linked to a sleep log
Tap once when your baby falls asleep and once when they wake. Each night and nap is saved with the sound that was playing, so after a week you can see which sounds actually settle your baby rather than guessing. Rescue mode — a stronger settle mix of brown hush and heartbeat that eases back down over ten minutes — is one tap away for wake-ups that do not resolve on their own.
BabySleep is a sound and tracking tool for parents, not a medical device. Nothing on this page is medical advice; if you are worried about your baby’s sleep or health, talk to a pediatric professional.
Frequently asked questions
Do the sleep sounds work offline?
Yes. Because the sounds are generated on the device, playback needs no download, stream or signal. Only the AI helper and story generation need a connection.
Which sounds are free?
The free plan includes core generated sounds, a two-layer mixer and the sleep timer. Premium unlocks the full catalog, four-layer mixing, Rescue mode, the AI tools and unlimited stories.
Can the app get too loud for a baby?
Master output is hard-capped inside the audio engine, not just the volume slider, and every sound ramps in gently. You should still keep the phone off the crib and away from your baby’s head.
Is there a version for Android?
The app is on the App Store for iPhone. An Android release is planned; the Google Play badge appears on this site as soon as the listing is live.
